the need for speed

sense :: taste // crossanwiches

I was behind a car this morning with all kinds of awesome bumper stickers on it, from a Diesel Sweeties sticker and other awesome pixellated tidbits (like a ghost from Pac Man) to an Esthero sticker, the back of the car was covered with goodness. It makes me want to pick up some stickers and tape them to the inside of my back window. Dunno about putting them on my car proper though. I’ve always been hesitant to do that. But the point is that the guy had awesome stickers, and it got me thinking about how if he were going where I was going it’d be so awesome to meet the guy; he definitely had taste, and style.

In other news though, it looks like Comcast might be rolling out some fat pipes to those of us on the east coast. If this is true, I really can’t wait, because I seriously would love to increase the number of concurrent listeners over at Plastic Bohemia, I think it’d be nice if I could have more than a handful of people tuning in at the same time.

Also, I desperately need a slanket. That’s right, it’s a blanket with sleeves. You’ve got to understand what this means-I could sit at my computer and stay warm while I use it! I could curl up on the couch with a laptop and use it while being comfortably curled up underneath it! It’s the ultimate thing for lounging around the house and reading! Seriously-this thing is better than sliced bread and I mean it. I think I’m going to buy like, two.

I’m sure you’ve all heard about the discovery of liquid water on Enceladus, a moon of Saturn. And yes, I’m crazy excited about this. Even if there’s no life there, microbial or otherwise, it deifnitely means that temperatures or no temperatures, even other planets in our solar system have the necessary conditions to form the kinds of materials that are necessary for life as we know it. Now there’s no saying that there isn’t “life” out there as we don’t know it, but this is definitely encouraging for breaking down those old theologistic notions that the Earth is the center of the Universe and human beings here have been touched by some divine hand and have the entire universe as our charge. There’s lots out there that we don’t know, and I for one am eager to learn about it.

Also in science related geekery, that’s totally hot.

    When I saw what was in the Slanket guy’s lap I realized . . . you are officially obsessed.

    😉

    Is the pronunciation of “enceladas” like “enchiladas”? That would so make my day.

    Eek-I think you’re right, I think I am obsessed. This will only be resolved when I go ahead and buy one!

    And yes actually! I believe the pronunciation IS like enchiladas; without the “enchil” part, of course, replaced with a “encele.” 🙂

    Excellent. At last this opens the whole universe up for Mexican-themed names: Huevosrancheras, Tamalas, Guacamolas . . .
