So my 30-days without fast food experiment is over, and the full report is over at Aeria Gloris. The short version? I’m fine, no longer craving fast food of pretty much any sort, much more inventive in the kitchen, and feeling much much better about pretty much anything now that fast food is out of my diet. Now if only I could realize that I’m saving a ton of money and stop fretting over budgetary matters. Those budgetary matters have mostly to do with the fact that Otakon is this weekend, and I’m trying to make sure I have enough money for the convention. I’m sure I do, but damned if I’m not a worrywort when it comes to money. (This year, instead of cleaning out the minibar, we’re bringing our own booze!)

Anyway, Otakon is indeed this coming weekend, and Raevyn and I took short weeks this week (we’re out Thursday and Friday and next Monday) in order to really enjoy our little vacation. We’re getting a hotel room, ordering room service, and enjoying the con for all its worth; I’m really looking forward to it. The con schedule is already up, and I’ve been meaning to print it out. So we can plan what we want to see!

We also decided to trade in our change to add to our Dealer’s Room Fund, and the change bucket we keep under the mail basket had a hundred dollars lurking in it somewhere. We were surprised, but definitely happy. Good times there, and that hundred bucks will bring in some good manga, let me tell you. I’ll have internet access from the hotel thankfully, and there’ll be the usual littany of photos from the con (even more than last year! I’m determined this year to take as many pictures as possible and not be shy when asking people for a photo of them in costume!) afterwards. My shopping list this year is pretty short, now that I’m swimming in action figures from the past two years, I think I’m about done for the time being. This year it’ll be all about manga and DVDs, I think. So anyone in the Baltimore area or headed to Otakon, let me know.

In other news, Raevyn and I are stoked that the new season of 30 Days is on TV, in fact the opening episode was a brilliant idea; make a virulent and aggressive Minuteman (folks who absolutely hate immigrants and load up their cars with guns and patrol the border vigilante style…very scary) spend a month living with a family of illegal immigrants. It was really an amazing episode. The first season is on DVD, how cool is that?

In additional other news, I was horrendously worried that last week would be too busy since a ton of people were out of the office on our team, and I had to spend essentially the entire week in the other office, and conduct business in my regular office via email-something very difficult when a lot of people are asking you to fix this or look at that. The week was rough, make no mistake, but it went by okay; with us ordering pizza one afternoon for lunch and finishing off the week by hooking up an Xbox to one of our LCD projectors in the office, fashioning a makeshift screen on the wall, and going to town in Marvel vs. Capcom 2 and Halo multiplayer. I even brought in some bagels and cream cheese for the team. Very very nice; that’s what being a geek is all about. Probably one of the first times in recent memory I was actually very happy at werk. Funny, that.

Anyway, a new week is on us, and I’m back out of the commander’s chair and sitting in my regular office dealing with the same old same old. I would say I’m bored (I am) but I have a lot of Otakon prep to do, so I should probably start making the associated lists and things so we’re all squared away for our vacation. Saying I’m looking forward to this is definitely an understatement.

I’m still jealous of your ability to play X-Box at work!

We must purchase Marvel vs. Capcom. If only for Felicia.

Congratulations on your 30 day fast food fast. I saw a healthy version of poutine that could easily be made at home with oven baked fries, low fat cheese and a miso-based gravy 🙂
