sense :: smell // lavender incense

It’s about 9pm on the 1st of January here, and our last houseguest just went on her way home. It was a glorious way to ring in the new year, with crisp martinis, geek beer glasses, brandy sharps, a huge bottle of Martini and Rossi champagne, anime, Guitar Hero II(fear the Gibson SG!), and of course, the Cartoon Network Metalocalpyse marathon. That, some good friends, and I can’t think of a better way to ring in the new year.

Things got started yesterday evening pretty early, and carried through until about 2 or 3 in the morning, and we finally got to bed at about 4am, coming up out of our champagne induced giggles enough to settle in to sleep. Raevyn and I shared one last shot of vanilla brandy before unwinding from the party and heading to bed for some much deserved rest. The party was tamer than last year…in most respects, and by morning we were neither hung over or had a ton of cleanup-in fact we managed to get most of the cleanup done after most of our guests had left and Rachel had settled in on the couch for some Metalocalpyse before going to sleep.

One thing I’ll note though, watching Metalocalpyse before bed makes for some incredibly odd dreams.

With it being the new year, it’s time to look back at my resolutions for 2006 and when I revisited them. I had accomplished a lot of them by the time I took my look back in September-redesigning several sites, splitting off the then-defunct Pleasant Tingle into Not So Humble and Gears and Widgets, the latter of which has been a point of conversation in job interviews as well as the key that led me to my freelancing for Ziff Davis Media, and writing for Gearlog.

So of those resolutions, the “Web” category was completely accomplished, the “Media” category is still in progress-I’m farther along in collecting parts for my MythTV computer, and I’m slowly but surely digitizing my CDs as I have time to rip them. The “Personal” section was complete, without a doubt, perhaps with the exception of an exercise plan. I have a new job, (not just one, but two!) I have a diet plan, I cook regularly-much more often than I used to, and we’re really ramping up on eating out on rare occasion as opposed to whenever we feel too lazy to cook something. This by itself lends itself to forcing us to cook full meals much more often than we used to. The only thing that I have to redo is our budget, now that the rent is going up, my auto insurance went down, my student loans are coming due, and I have two new jobs to account for.

So. I think I did pretty well as far as those goals are concerned. Now I just need to sit down and think up some resolutions for this year. Some of them will be repeat performers, like the budget for example, and building the MythTV box, but I think there’ll be some new appearances, like not just making a budget but sticking to it, selling unwanted items on eBay, things like that. I’ll think it over and get back to you guys.

In the meantime though, Happy New Year to all of you! Here’s to hoping 2007 will be a joyous year.

Happy New Year! Congratulations on the resolutions kept!

Wish I had been close enough to drop by and share a cup of cheer with you two. You are both such great people . . .

    Happy New Year, Pastilla! 😀

I’m glad I was able to accomplish some of those goals for the year, and stick to the ones I really set for myself. Here’s hoping I can do it again.

::blush:: We’re just ourselves, after all…and you know if you were ever in the area, you’d be more than welcome for as long as you’d opt to stay! We’ll mull some cider for you-it goes very well with the vanilla brandy. ^^
