it’s so bright tonight

It’s funny, the past couple of weeks again have been another whirlwind of activity. I took a trip to San Francisco, which was amazing – I had a great time and I did get the opportunity to sit down for lunch with DBlume which was fantastic. The reasons why I went out there I’m partially keeping under wraps, at least for the time being, but suffice to say that this time last week I was feeling relieved to be over something pretty serious but at the same time really ecstatic and thrilled to be on the west coast and driving around the streets of San Francisco.

I admit, I loved San Fran, and while I adored my time out there I don’t think I’ll be back there particularly soon, unless it’s to visit friends again and see the sights – and don’t get me wrong, I definitely want to go back. I loved everything about San Francisco, from watching the clouds roll over the hills along the bay to crossing the Golden Gate Bridge. I have some pictures from my trip out there; I just need to upload them both to Lorelei Complex and to Photowerks.

Aside from this, I think I’m finally caught up with my writing to a large extent, even though I’ve slogged through a ridiculous amount of work this week because a major project I’ve been working on in some capacity for the past 12 months is coming to a head. By this time next week it’ll largely be behind me, with the exception of some hang-off tasks that I’m not terribly concerned with. It’ll be remarkable to have a little bit of breathing room.

I don’t know what I’ll do with the time though. Maybe a little more traveling, although I can’t think of where I want to go. There are places in the immediate area that I’m not as familiar as I wish I were – so I might stick close to home for a bit, but we’ll see. Nothing like the potential of losing something to force you to want to get more acquainted with it.

Now then. Speaking of paying attention to the things you have, my post for Tom’s Guide went up last week – it’s called Tips for the Multi-Display Life: A Tale of Two Monitors. I really really dig it – if you haven’t taken a look yet, please do and let me know what you think.

In the meantime, I’m still doing tons of writing for myself, and for places like AppScout and Gearlog. I need to help out at Gearlog more; get back into my gadget and gear beat a little – I’ve been focusing on apps and services so much it’s been tricky finding good gear news without writing about the same things everyone else is. One thing I’d like to do more of though is challenge myself to do more for The Classy Geek. I think that site has a TON of potential, I just need the time and energy to unlock it. I don’t like the thought that I may have hit the cap of the amount of energy I can put into writing and my day job at the same time one bit. I think I just need to re-orient myself.

That and get some more exercise. Now that things have calmed down a bit, I don’t have to leave the office for home so late in the evening anymore, and I can make sure to hit the DDR pads for a workout every night again like I used to before I got super-busy.

I was really glad that we were able to get together when you came to the Left Coast. It really was like sitting down with an old friend, even though it was the first time we met face-to-face.

It was great seeing you too! Exactly like meeting an old friend – but we have been friends for a long time, so it makes sense. 😀
