love (it's an old pic, sorry)

40 years ago today, the US Supreme Court, in a unanimous decision, struck down the remaining anti-miscegenation laws in 16 states, left over from the so-called “Racial Integrity Act of 1924.”

The case was Loving v. Virginia, and the decision from the court has been known thereafter as The Loving Decision, and June 12th has informally and quietly been referred to as Loving Day.

Happy Loving Day.

miscegenation is an ugly-sounding word, for such a nice thing.
